Title page detail: heraldic scrollwork more
The concordance title page includes this cartouche with a boar’s head (rather like a chess-piece, on a crowned brick base, formally a “mural crown”) with a scroll coming from its mouth and at the bottom enclosing a lamb, the scroll bearing text as follows:
Tigre reo. animale del. adam vecchio. figlivolo merce. levangelio fatto. n’estat agnello.
This is the device of Christopher Barker, and a rough translation might be The tiger, wicked creature of the old Adam, by the Gospel made a son, is made a lamb.
There is a separate image of the ornate frame.
