Burgh Castle is next to Breydon Water on the Norfolk/Suffolk border (today it seems to be in Norfolk, but this Web site uses the 1900 borders so as to be closer to historical sources). It is (or was) a Roman fort, built in the 3rd century. I found an EDP24 page about it, and also a History Today article (History Today is a widely-distributed British history magazine). |
