Notes:

It’s easy to imgine that interest in medieval borders, calligraphy and decoration started with William Morris and Edward Johnston in the 1880s, but this book was produced in 1860 and includes such beautiful full-page borders as this illuminaged green, blue and gold example from a fifteenth century book of hours. There are birds and vines, frogs and a rather large grass-hopper, with an inner rectangle for the text having an arched top.

I’d probably use a black-letter (old english) font for a heading and Garamond italic for text, to try to be in keeping.
