A man with a mousache is wearing a flat cap, a billkowing jacket and button-up waistcoat, and has his hands on a horizontal wheel at the stern of a ship. There are various objects near his feet, including a tall mug and a round bnasket. He seems to be concentratinf, or perhaps remembering a sad occasion, and perhaps has the dog end of a cigarrete on his lower lip.

The picture is signed with an A, or perhaps AL, at lower left, and X.U.P. [illegible] at lower right.
