Alfred Rimmer (1829-1893).

Alfred Rimmer was born on the 9th of August, 1829, in Liverpool, the son of Thomas Rimmer, timber merchant, and his wife, Mary, née Burroughs. He was educated at Liverpool College, articled to a Liverpool architect named Cunningham, and then practised as an architect. He published “Ancient Halls of Lancashire” in 1852. In 1858 he moved to Canada with his wife Frances, returning in 1870 and settling in Chester. He drew for a number of books and magazines, as well as writing books in his own right.
