A Workshop for Stafe Costumes: The Chiseling more
tradesmen, armour, lances, weapons, horses, men, people, candleabra
A man with short back and sides hair, a suit jacket, and what looks like a green dress but is probably an apron, uses a small hammer with a chisel on a shield. In the background plate armour for a war-horse. Above, a mediæval-style chandelier.
The German caption reads “Eine Werkstätte der Bühnentracht. Das Ciselieren.” which Google Translate fails at miserably, but translates more or less as Workshop For Stage Costumes: The chiselling (or, chiseller?).
The space at lower right contained an article about the workshop:
The incorporation of naturalism, or rather, fidelity to reality, cannot be studied solely in modern drama; it has also left its mark on the stage representation of the historical past. Here, the Meiningen Theatre brought about a profound change. Respect for costume has given rise to respect for historical character.
The original print is approximately A4 (US letter) sized in the book.
