Avenging Angel more
A detail from “Satan and Beelzebub” showing a Victorious Avenging Angel with a spear, winged, standing barefoot on a rock. I have isolated the angel (a cutout angel!)
The illustration is from the First Book of Paradise Lost:
“Forthwith upright he rears from off the pool
His mighty stature.”
I only have a single page, unfortunately, given to me as a gift (I wouldn’t normally buy a plate from a book that had been ripped apart) but it was sold with Dante in the Gloomy Wood, a scene from the Inferno.
