I.—Old Museum, Berlin: Detail of Façade, with Sculpture Group “The Amazon.” Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Architect. Kiss, Sculptor. panopticum took a photograph of these steps that helps to put them into scale: they do appear to be of monumental proportions! The naked woman in the picture is about to throw her spear from her horse: maybe she is an Amazon warrior. The museum was designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel in 1830, and was the first to be built on Berlin’s ‘Museum Island’. |
