Notes: |
A line-drawing of some old leather-bound books, closed The Domesday Book was compiled at the order of William the Conqueror (1066 and all that) almost a thousand years ago. It was an inventory of all of his new property, and as such provides a resource of huge value for historians. The Domesday Book is bound in two volumes, and presumably those are what are shown here. |
