Notes:

We followed the rough cobblestone walk to the church door, but could not gain admittance until the caretaker was found, for Sulgrave Church has been kept strictly under lock and key ever since one of the Washington brasses was stolen—by an American, of course—a few years ago. It is a small, rough, lichen-covered building, much restored, even to the stolen brass tablet to the memory of the first Laurence Washington. The engraving [...] shows how certainly the Washington coat-of-arms must have suggested the motif for the American flag and the great seal of the United States. (p. 43)

There is a coat of arms with three stars and two stripes, and the text as follows (with modern spelling):

Here lyeth buried the bodies of Laurence Washington Gent[leman] and Amee his wife by whom he had issue [four] sone and [seven] daughters Wl. Laurence died the ? day of ? [in the year] 15? and Ann deceased the 6th day of October in the year 1564.

There is also a note about the brass being a replacement, which I cannot read from the photography. Presumably the missing dates would have been on the original brass.
