Idler No. 8: George and the Dragon. more
Saint George, patron saint of England, is seen here wearing full plate mail wielding a mace and about to slay the dragon, together with his two dogs. The image is in an oval cartouche or frame, surmounted ith a basket of flowers including a cross, and the outside of the frame has a background of bricks.
The plate is engraved (not shown here) as follows:
Plate IV. Published as the Act directs by John Walker. April 14 1787. E. F. Burney del.; Heath sc.
This means that Burney drew (delineated) the picture and Heath then engraved (sculpted) it.
