Images and some text extracts from Volume 3 of Great Races of Mankind by John Clark Ridpath, published by Joned Brothers in 1893.
There were originally four volumes; currently I have this and one other, that i bought at Hannelore Headly Books in St Catherine’s, Ontario, Canada..
This volume, the third, says that it covers West Aryans, Semites, Hamites, and Malayo-Mongoloids.

There may be some confusion here, as the emperor of Annam (Vietnam today) had the rôle of Great Priest at festivals. At any rate the pear-shaped ball at the top of his staff is truncated in other copies of this book too.
