There has been a castle at Abergavenny since around 1087, but today’s ruins were built in the 13th and 14th centuries. Today there is a gate with barbican and a couple of towers. There are some modern photographs of Abergavenny Castle on the Castles of Wales web site. Abergavenny is also called, in Welsh, Y Fenni.
