The landlord, or bar-tender, or celler-master, a young man with a short tunic and dagger, holder up a rather large jug of beer; behind him is a barrel.

Presumably the ideas was that text would be inserted into the banners and banderols in these pictures.

The image is signed O. Leitz and Weisenbach. Weisenbach is a town in Germany. O. Leitz will be Otto Leitz, a German artist in oils who flourished from 1860 to 1910 or so.
