Notes:

Menukarte (Koch)

Here the cook, or chef, smiles as he holds a platter with a startled-looking swan (or duck?) on a platter with parsnips and herbs. Behind him a soup-pot, or cauldron, is steaming over a fire. Banners are ready for text. This is the second of four menu cards.

Presumably the ideas was that text would be inserted into the banners and banderols in these pictures.

The image is signed O. Leitz and Weisenbach. Weisenbach is a town in Germany. O. Leitz will be Otto Leitz, a German artist in oils who flourished from 1860 to 1910 or so.
