Here we have a knight in chainmail riding a horse. He carries a shield on his left and a lance raised upright with a pennant flying at the tip. He is blowing into a horn, presumably to announce his presence. In front of him, and to our right, a very solidly-built archway with a brazier, or bracket, over it for holding a light. There is no door: it is an empty arch. Perhaps we should remember that there are no mediæval castles in America, where this picture was made!
