A vision of beauty burst upon the soul of Jacob, as he laid his head upon a stone, and dreamed. He was a lone wanderer in the world, flying from a brother whom he had defrauded of his birthright, and whose vengeance he feared. “[...] “And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold the angels of God ascending on it.” (p. 5) The Biblical text is well-known here of course. A caption says Fred Boll pinx. and M. Osborne Sc.; another says W. L. Ormsby, Printer. and then Engraved for the Christian Parlor Magazine. |
