The insects look upon a giant dam more
ants, crickets, insects, top hats, illustrations fo children, dams, power stations
Two insects wearing top hats (as they do) sit on a leaf and look at a large dam, probably hydro-electric, in the distance. The dam is surmounted by a huge statue of a lion, and there’s a building at the bottom with a tall chimney, possibly a mill or factory.
This engraving is a scene from a story by the Belgian entomologist Dr. Ernesto Candéze [Ernest Charles Auguste Cadèze] called in this Spanish edition Desventuras de una colonia de insectos. That is, in Englsh, misadventures of an insect colony.
The picture is signed C. Renard, which is possibly Charles Renard, who was a French artist active at this time, or Camille Renard (1832 – 1921).
