Fine typography from the 16th century. This image shows use of “historiated initials” as drop caps (available on this Web site as separate images), marginalia, and careful control of the darkness and texture of the printed page (the colour, as typographers call it).

Size given is approximate; in addition, the book will almost certainly have been trimmed if it has been rebound, so the page proportions may not be exactly as intended.
