Edwin Hayes, R.H.A., R.I., was known espeically for marine-related paintings both in oil and in watercolour. He was born in Bristol, but his father moved to Dublin and he followed, either as a boy or later i am not sure. He stayed in Ireland for ten years studying art at the Dublin Society Art School and exhibiting; at some point he also worked as a trans-Atlantic steward boy and sailor, possibly before the move to Ireland. He later moved back to London where he lived for the rest of his life.
