This border contains the German text Erzählung von Ludwig Jacobowki, which means, Narrative by Ludwig Jacobowki. A heading benath the border reads Vorfrühling, which means First signs of Spring, or, Early Spring.
The border features an owl with wings spread, just behind the space for the words; that space ends on weither side with serpent or dragon heads. There is a cresent moon on each side, and a thistle, and beneath the space for text are two wrists and hands holding maybe magic wands or sticks that end in many snakes, or they could be ropes or wires with knots at the end, scourges used to whip people.
The engraving is signed J. Dieguez; this is likely the Catalan artist Joaquín Dieguez Diaz (1860 – 1931).
Ludwig Jacobowki wrote for a number of newspapers and magazines, including poetry as well as prose. His work was a fusion of Jewish and Berlin German cultures at the end of the nineteenth century; he died of meningitis in 1900.
