Moderne Kunst in Meister-Holzschnitten Band XIII (page 1/2)

details...

Pictures from Moderne Kunst in Meister-Holzschnitten (Modern Art in Master Woodcuts), Vol 13, Berlin, 1901.

I bought this huge book in Prague on a business trip. It’s an “elephant folio” with pages measuring 410×290mm (roughly 11½×16 inches), including many engravings that fill the page or even double-page spreads and fold-outs.

Despite the title, the images are probably engraved on metal, because wood this size was hard to work with.

The date 1897 is based on some events covered, including completion of a new theatre in Bromberg (now Bydgoszcz, Poland, and an article about Jean Clermont’s pet poodle that played the piano.

I have several other volumes in this series.
