Notes:

This winged naked little boy is intent on a canvas in front of him. He faces away from us and slightly to his left side (our left too); in his left hand is an artist’s palette and in his right a paintbrush. He has wings sprouting out of his back, making him a cherub or Cupid or Eros.

Hs wings stick out from the rectangular frame surrounding the picture.

The piece from which he was taken was the masthead for the monthly German art magazine Moderne Kunst, and originally the volume number was printed on the canvas. It is signed by Heinrich Riffarth, a German printmaker, engraver, maker of photogravure, and entomologist!
