Daniel Urrabieta y Vierge was born in Madrid, in Spain, but moved to Paris before he was twenty, just before the Franco-Prussian war. After a stroke left the right side of his body paralysed when he was thirty, he had to retrain himself to draw (and paint, i think) with his left hand.

In the 1880s, Daniel Vierge developed his technique for photo-reproduction of drawings, which represented a major step forward in eliminating the need for tracings.
