Hermann Schlittgen (1859 – 1930).

Hermann Schlittgen was a German painter and etcher, born in Roitzch in 1859, known for book illustrations, genre paintings, watercolours and also cartoons for theFliegende Blätter.He studied at the Acadmy of Art in Lepzig, then later in Munich, Paris, and then at the Weimar School of Art where he was taught by Willem Linnig the Younger.

He toured Italy, Spain and Belgium to study art; he lived in Munich, and in 1906 was awarded tihe Villa Romana Prize.

There is a portrait of him painted by Edvard Munch.

He died in 1930.
