Paul Gray was born in Dublin (Ireland) on 17th May 1848, and died on 14th November 1868. That makes him seventeen years old when he painted the pictures for Hereward the Wake in Good Words of 1867, for which he was best known.

Some sources give his dates as 1842 and 1866. White Gleeson, in “The Sixties” gives the dates I have used.
