Thomas Graham (1840 – 1906).

Thomas Graham, or Tom Graham as he was known, was a Scottish artist, Thomas Alexander Ferguson Graham, known for attention to detail. His father was crown chamberlain of Orkney, but after that man’s death Tom, at the age of ten, went to live in Edinburgh.

As a young teen he was enrolled into the Trustees Academy, studying under Robert Scott Lauder.

He exhibited at teh Royal Scottish Academy starting in 1859, and in 1863 moved to London.

His attention to detail and to lighting and movement helped secure his place among artists, although his work was never very popular, although he had many friends.

He lectured extensively and played an active role in encouraging and improving artistic education, especially within Scotland where he lectured at the Academy.

He died single, on a visit to Edinburgh in 1906.
