Sir George Clausen (1852-1944).

Sir George Clausen was a British artist born in London in 1852. He studied design at the South Kensington Schools in London, then worked for the genre painter Edwin Long before moving to Paris and working at a private art school, the Académie Julian. He married Agnes Mary Webster on the first of June 1881 in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, UK.

Clausen was an official war artist in World War I. He worked in oil and watercolour, etching, mezzotint, drypoint and occasionally lithographs. He was knighted in 1927.
