This is a digital scan of a print of an engraving representing a painting on china done in 1878 by Miss Charlotte H. Spiers. The plate in question was shown at the fifth Annual exhibition of Paintings on China at the galleries of Messrs. Howell and James, in Regent Street, London.

Her “Poppies and Lillies” (No. 1,4888), which we engrave, is an excellent example of flower-painting. The poppies are charming in colour. In our illustration the swallow seems to be rather out of scale with the flowers, but the effect is not so in the plaque itself. (p. 394)
