Derwent Hall was built in 1672 by the Belguy family, and at some point passed to the Duke of Norfolk. In 1931 it because a youth hostel, but in 1945 the Derwent dam was completed and the valley was flooded; Derwent Hall is now under water, although in 1976 and 1989 it may have reappeared briefly when the water level fell.
