Carrick, and Cunningham. Ayrshire is divided into three parts: Kyle, a strong corn-growing soil; Carrick, a wild hilly portion, only fit for feeding cattle; and Cunningham, a rich dairy land. Hence the saying—
“Kyle for a man, Carrick for a coo [cow],
Cunningham for butter, Galloway for wooʹ [wool].”
