All the sons of the sovereigns of Spain and Portugal bear this title, except the crown prince, who is called in Spain the Prince of Astuʹrias. In the Middle Ages the word “childe” was used as a title of honour in England, France, and Germany; hence Childe Harold, Childe-ric, Childe-bert, etc.
