Properly, the father of the Sun and Moon, but by poets made a surname of the Sun. Shakespeare makes it a synonym of Apollo. The proper pronunciation is Hyperiʹon. Thus Ovid—
“Placat equo Persis radiis Hyperiŏne cinctum.”
