Cuʹnobelin’s Gold Mines.

Caverns in the chalk beds of Little Thurrock, Essex; so called from the tradition that King Cuʹnobelin hid in them his gold. They are sometimes called Dane-holes, because they were used as lurking-places by the Norsemen.
