Calliope [Kalʹ-lĭ-o-pe, 4 syl., Greek, καλoζ, pψ, beautiful voice].
The muse of epic or heroic poetry. Her emblems are a stylus and wax tablets. The painting of this Muse by Ercolana Ercolanetti (1615–1687) and her statue by Clementi (who died in 1580) are very celebrated.
