.—Such is the fate of the man, whose reputation bore his name to the closet of every politician in Europe; such deservedly the lot of that general, who, entrusted with the safety of the French nation, relinquished his honor for mercenary reward. He trusted to the principles of Cobourg, of Claisayt, of aristocracy!—trusted to aristocracy! how weak his mind, how futile his experience, who accused nobles of virtue, integrity, or veracity. May the paths of Dumourier be the paths of apostacy.
