Deˊodand
Deˊodand [deodandum, qu.Dandum Deo, i.e.to be devoted to God] a thing as it were forfeited to God, to attone for the violent death of a man by misadventure; as if a man were killed by
the accidental fall of a tree, or run over by a cartwheel; then the tree or cartwheel, or cart or horses is to be sold,
and the money to be given to the poor.
