Fortuné-Louis Meaulle was a French painter, novelist and wood-engraver; he made engravings for a number of British magazines as well as for French books andLe Petit Journal. He exhibited at the Salon, was a friend of Victor Hugo, and is known today for work he did for the Illustrated London News and for L’Art.
