Youth

Youth is represented in Painting, Sculpture &c. by a young man, in the prime of his years, with his mouth bound, (signifying that silence is not only commendable, but necessary in youth) holding under one arm a hare (as a symbol of watchfulness) and in the other a fish. Or, clad in blue, with a garland of flowers on his head, in a dancing posture, and playing on a harp.
