Bacchus

Bacchus (Bac`chus) , son of Zeus and Semele, the god of the vine, and promoter of its culture as well as the civilisation which accompanied it; represented as riding in a car drawn by tame tigers, and carrying a Thyrsus (q.v.); he rendered signal service to Zeus in the war of the gods with the Giants (q.v.).
