Notes: |
This lady [Beatrice] was accompanied by the number nine to the end that men might clearly perceive her to be a nine, that is, a miracle, whose only root is the Holy Trinity.” (p. 119) Beatrice is depicted standing amdist a circle of nine signs of the zodiac; the symbols of the four Evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, are at the corners, with an angel over all. I have made separate images for Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and also for the Zodiac wheel, even though it is incomplete. |
