John Romer spoke about Simon/St Simeon of the pillar on one of his videos. Adore John Romer.
Other older images show him up more on stacks of stones, with a small atone platform on top.
Stories tend to get exaggerated as time goes by... especially catholics.
Anyway, maybe he climbed or got up on his ‘tower’ to preach or admonish. – Who really knows?
