The house in the picture is now called six bells cottage but at the time the picture was painted it was a Pub called the sixbells....... you can see the sign over the two figures in the doorway. The building is considerably smaller now (after a fire) and the exposed timbers have been plastered over in the last hundred years....It would never have been thatched, not in Kent, the tiles would probably have been made locally.......I know this because 50 years ago i was born in this house, and spent the first five years of my life there......
