Notes: |
One of a number of pictures that Albrecht Dürer [Duerer] made of the Nativity, i.e. the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, a significant religious event to people of the Christian religion. The birth here takes place amongst ruined buildings of medieval European design. The mother Mary and the baby Jesus are in to the left; to the right, outside the building, a man, possibly intended to be Joseph, filles a jug with water from a well. |
