In the Library of the University of Leyden, from a print dated 1610 [modern spelling: Leiden] “It will be observed [...] that those who consulted the books were obliged to stand.” (p. 130) Two Dutch scholars stand reading at the shelf marked mathematici (mathematics). They wear hats and long cloaks. The Philosophi (Philosophy) shelf is also visible. |
